Dr. Mike O'Hara
Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Michael O'Hara is excited to bring his expertise and passion for veterinary care to Arroyo Grande with the opening of his small animal practice. As a proud local, he deeply values the strong connections he has formed within the community and is committed to serving both its pets and their families.
Dr. O’Hara started his career in animal medicine as a veterinary technician at Arroyo Grande Veterinary Hospital. Inspired by his father-in-law and mentor, Dr. Harley Boos, a respected local veterinarian, Dr. O'Hara discovered early in his career that he wanted to create a warm and welcoming veterinary practice of his own. An environment where pets receive exceptional care and families feel supported every step of the way.
Dr. O'Hara earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2013. He went on to complete his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA, in 2018. Since then, he has gained valuable experience in emergency medicine, shelter medicine where he performed high volume spays and neuters, and at various small animal practices throughout the region.
With a special interest in surgery, Dr. O'Hara is dedicated to continually advancing his skills to provide the best outcomes for his patients. He also emphasizes client education, believing that informed pet owners play a vital role in maintaining their pets' health and well-being.
Outside the clinic, Dr. O'Hara enjoys hiking, camping, golfing, and spending quality time outdoors with his family. He resides in Arroyo Grande with his wife Katie, their daughter Harlyn, and their two beloved rescue dogs, Poppy and Stuart.
Dr. Michael O'Hara looks forward to welcoming you and your pet family members to his practice and building lasting relationships based on trust, compassion, and exceptional care.

Joni
Client Service Representative
Joni brings over 20 years of experience in general veterinary practice and a lifelong love of animals to her role as a Client Service Representative. Born and raised on California's Central Coast, Joni's path in veterinary medicine has taken her coast to coast—including seven years in Massachusetts, where she worked as a veterinary assistant and built a strong foundation in hands-on patient care.
When she returned to California, Joni realized that what she enjoyed most was connecting with clients—hearing their stories, watching their pets grow, and being a part of their care journey. That's what led her to focus on client service. She takes pride in helping people feel comfortable, heard, and supported, whether they're coming in for a routine check-up or a more difficult visit.
Joni is genuinely excited to be part of the team at Beach Cities Veterinary Hospital and is looking forward to working with a group of people who care deeply—not just about animals, but about each other and the clients they serve. Outside the clinic, you'll usually find Joni out on the trails, tending to her garden, or enjoying quiet time at home with her two cats, Pip and Oliver.
