That’s why we provide urgent care services at Beach Cities Veterinary Hospital for pets needing immediate attention. Our veterinary team is prepared to provide compassionate, expert care when your pet needs it the most.

How to Identify Urgent Situations

Urgent care addresses situations that require prompt attention. If your pet is experiencing severe symptoms, please call us ahead of time at (805) 419-9992. This helps us triage your pet’s condition and work with you to determine the best steps for your pet.

Critical

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Loss of consciousness or inability to stand
  • Straining or inability to urinate
  • Multiple seizures or a seizure lasting more than 5 minutes
  • Severe Injuries (e.g., Automotive Accident, Animal Attack)
  • Severe, persistent bleeding
  • Complications during Labor
  • Ingestion of toxic substances

Call immediately. Cases need immediate attention and may require a referral to a 24-hour emergency hospital.

Emergency

  • Sudden inability to walk
  • Labored or altered breathing
  • Bloated or swollen abdomen
  • Continued bleeding
  • Severe pain
  • Known ingestion of a foreign object
  • Seizures
  • Allergic reactions, such as facial swelling or hives
  • Lacerations and broken bones

Call ahead for triage. Based on your pet’s condition, we’ll work with you to assist your pet as soon as possible or refer another facility for prioritized care.

  • Excessive coughing
  • Suspected ingestion of foreign objects
  • Lethargy
  • Persistent itching or scratching
  • Chronic weight loss
  • Symptoms of chronic illnesses or diseases
  • Loss of appetite for more than 24 hours
  • Single seizure with complete recovery
  • Persistent or severe vomiting
  • Acute diarrhea
  • Frequent urination or blood in urine
  • Ear discomfort, discharge, or odor

Walk in or call us as soon as possible. We aim to provide same-day care.

Monday–Friday: 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Saturday–Sunday: Closed
